About Us

The residents of Mount Vernon on the Potomac (MVOP) would like to welcome you to our quiet neighborhood located on Dogue Creek, an offshoot of the Potomac River.  We are a community of 113 homes located within walking distance of the Mount Vernon Estate.  In 1976, the neighborhood was developed on the grounds of the Seven Oaks Estate, located on one of George Washington’s original five farms.  Many of the oak trees that formed the basis of the estate’s name are still standing in the neighborhood.  The original home has been restored and was used in the opening scenes of the 1958 film “Houseboat” starring Cary Grant and Sophia Loren.

The most unique feature of our neighborhood is its large private marina and waterfront park.  Our amenities include a tennis court, floating dock, boat ramp, canoe racks, bathhouse, and a large picnic area.

We gather for social events throughout the year, including an Easter egg hunt, a pig roast, and Christmas caroling.  Many of these gatherings are held on our waterfront park area. Beautiful sunsets highlight the Friday evening happy hours.

MVOP has an active homeowners association and the Board of Directors meets monthly to discuss issues facing the community.  We maintain the extensive common areas.  Our architectural covenants help to maintain the integrity of the neighborhood.  Please contact any member to discuss any questions or concerns.

Are you interested in buying a home in our neighborhood?  Please contact our treasurer, Mary Lewis, at MVOPTreasurer@gmail.com, who will advise you of the cost and procedure to obtain a disclosure packet.
